FY10 Prevention and Public Health Fund implementation continues in earnest. Following recent funding announcements for Public Health Training Centers, and Communities Putting Prevention to Work, HHS has now announced the availability of infrastructure funds for the National Public Health Improvement Program (NPHIP) – Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure for Improved Health Outcomes. http://www.cdc.gov/ostlts/nphip/about.html. Funds are available for 94 projects totaling $42.5 million, as part of a 5-year cooperative agreement program entitled, Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure for Improved Health Outcomes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released its third preparedness report, Public Health Preparedness: Strengthening the Nation’s Emergency Response State by Statehttp://emergency.cdc.gov/publications/2010phprep/. The report updates and expands upon CDC’s first state report published in 2008, Public Health Preparedness: Mobilizing State by Statehttp://emergency.cdc.gov/publications/feb08phprep/. According to CDC, “Progress in preparedness is highlighted in the report, and data are provided on a broad range of activities taking place at state and local health departments across the nation.”
